How it works

Creating a budget

  1. If creating your first budget, click Create a budget
    1. Otherwise, click + Create new budget at the bottom of the screen
  2. Budgets can be created for categories and/or merchants. Select any number of categories, sub-categories and merchants you'd like to be tracked for your budget
  3. Optionally, set the name of your budget
    1. Where a custom name isn't set, a name will be auto-generated based on your selected budget categories and/or merchants
  4. Click Next
  5. Set the budget amount, by either:
    1. Selecting a preset amount based on your current average spend, or 5%, 10% or 25% less than your average spend
    2. Setting a custom amount
  6. Set the budget recurrence:
    1. Monthly, which will be selected by default
    2. Weekly
  7. Set the budget reset day
    1. For monthly, this will be 1st-31st of the month
    2. For weekly, this will be Monday through Sunday
📘

Info

Where the current month does not have the same amount of days as is selected for the reset date, the budget will default to resetting on the last day of the month. For example, selecting 31st of the month will result in a budget in February of a regular year to end on the 28th.

Budgets are created against a customer as opposed to a specific account, this means that any budgets created will track a customer's spending across all of their accounts within the Bud platform.

  1. Click Save Budget
  2. You will now see a visualization of how you are tracking towards this budget for the current period

 Editing a budget

  1. Expand the budget you'd like to edit
  2. Follow steps 2 through 8 of 'Creating a budget'
📘

Info

When editing a budget, if the budgets existing name was saved as the auto-assigned name then changing the selected categories and/or merchants will result in the name being auto-updated to match.

Where a custom name was previously assigned, this name will always stay the same unless you change it.

Deleting a budget

  • Click Delete
  • Confirm deletion by clicking Yes, delete

Customization

The following customizations can be applied, by appending search parameters to the generated URL:

  • enable_accounts_filter
    • Enables account filtering by a list of the customers account
    • For example https://widgets.thisisbud.com/spending-budgets?token=an-example-token&enable_accounts_filter
  • enable_user_preferences_sync
    • Syncs account selection across widgets. The value you set controls whether the widget both sends and receives selections, or only receives them
    • (no value) = Two-way sync. Selecting accounts in this widget updates every other widget that has the parameter. Selections made in those widgets also update this one
      • https://widgets.thisisbud.com/spending-budgets?token=an-example-token&enable_user_preferences_sync
    • receive_only = Sub-filters. Selections in other widgets filter the accounts shown here. Changes made within this widget are not sent to other widgets
      • https://widgets.thisisbud.com/spending-budgets?token=an-example-token&enable_user_preferences_sync=receive_only
      • Use receive_only when this widget should follow the account selection made elsewhere, for example when your application has a global account filter and you want to sub-filter only on this widget
